V. S. Naipaul's India: A Wounded Civilization Quest Continues

India: A Wounded Civilization seems the work of a writer whose mind is made up and who is only out to prove his own point. This is a short book which speaks of the Indian civilization as a “Wounded Civilization”-decayed and dying. This paper is an attempt to study Naipaul's quest for India that started from his first visit which produced An Area of Darkness and is continued in his India: A Wounded Civilization. This paper highlights that India: A Wounded Civilization is written in 1975–76 in the backdrop of the Indian Emergency declared by Indira Gandhi, the book makes the case that India's civilisation has withdrawn into itself as result of long years of foreign rule.
