Drug abuse or the use of illegal drug is prevalent across the globe. Illegal drug use is one major social problem that requires a serious consideration. It directly or indirectly leads to the spread of epidemic. For instance, the social aspect such as sexual relationships, sharing of needles and syringes has given rise to the rapid increase in the rate of HIV transmission. Approaches to eradicate drug abuse and HIV related issues are often found as limitedly successful. This paper examines the illegal drug use and the rise of its problem among the youths in the Tangkhul society. It primarily focuses on the role of civil society organisations, NGOs and other groups in addressing the menace of drug abuse.
