Role of University Management in Creation of Inclusive Environment for Students with Disabilities in Higher Education Institutions

This paper aims to examine the initiatives taken by the university management for fulfilling the provision of support services for students with disabilities and the level of implementation of the UGC schemes in higher education institutions in Andhra Pradesh, India. The study has been conducted by analyzing the responses gathered from six higher educational institutions through filling of comprehensive questionnaire during the academic year 2008–09. While framing the questionnaire, we took into account the types of support provided, and its availability and accessibility for disabled students, facilitating or hindering the factors affecting the university management in supporting the disabled students, evaluating the policies and provisions and their future plans to serve the disabled students. The data from the questionnaire was categorized and analyzed quantitatively in major headings.
