Occupational Stress and Adjustment of Secondary School Teachers of Dibrugarh District

Abstract

Stress is a part of our life and it largely depends on experience, disposition and environment. Occupational stress of teachers affects their quality of teaching. When a teacher feels stress in his occupation, he cannot give his total dedication on his work. Adjustment is one among the major determinates of teachers performance in teaching. In the present study, an attempt has been made to analyze the occupational stress of secondary school teachers and its relationship with teacher adjustment. Sample of the study comprises of 300 secondary school teachers of Dibrugarh district. The investigator has used Teachers Occupational Stress Scale constructed and standardized by Aftab and Mangal Teacher Adjustment Inventory constructed and standardized by Mangal to collect the necessary data. The study revealed that majority of the teachers had low level of occupational stress. The study also shows a significant relationship between occupational stress and adjustment of secondary school teachers.
