Abstract

Human rights are those rights which are very important for every human being to live a peaceful life in this world. These can be called fundamental or inalienable rights. These are the basic rights with the help of which a man can live a life of dignity and freedom. These rights are given priority in social policy administration and enactment of law. These rights are of paramount importance and cannot be denied in any circumstances. The concept of human rights emphasizes the worth of an individual in the society. It covers the series of different rights and freedom asserted by the constitution, universally accepted and essential to live a happy and peaceful life. These provisions include equality before law and personal liberty, right against action, right to be releases on bail, right against inhuman treatment, abolition of discrimination and untouchablity and right to assemble etc.

But the situation of human rights in India is not satisfactory. These rights are not actually implemented in letter and spirit. The citizens are not enjoying them because of certain reasons. People are sent to jail for indefinite time without being lawfully tried. Men and women are not equally treated everywhere.

In the present paper, an attempt has been made to discuss human rights violations and the role of media in the protection and promotion of human rights. Media is the most effective, informative and systematic means of communication. It can spread informative and systematic means of communication. It can spread information to a large number of people in a very short span of time. Media should be a free and powerful instrument to create awareness in the public. It can build pressure for positive action regarding protection and promotion of violation but also instrumentality of finding solutions thereof.
