Knowledge Management: A Challenge for Higher Education

Abstract

The convergent impact of the multiple factors like emergence of the knowledge as a principal driver of growth, the information and communication technology (ICT) revolution and globalization, have thrown unprecedented challenges to higher education sector. It has however simultaneously unfolded several opportunities as well. Higher education sector is indeed pivotal to the creation of the intellectual capacity on which knowledge production and utilization depends. It is also central to the promotion of the lifelong-learning practices necessary for updating people's knowledge and skills. In this paper a modest attempt has been made to discuss the role of higher education sector in creating a knowledge based society in developing countries like India. It also discusses the approach to meet the challenges of developing a knowledge society.
