Deterritorialisation and Interdependent: Perspective on Naga Peace Talks

The notion of “absolute sovereignty” is severely constrained and limited of its function and scope in a globalised and an interdependent world. Every independent nation-state in the contemporary times is bounded by various multi-lateral organisations and legislations beyond its territory to make the nation-state functional and effective. The Nagas aspiration to live as a dignified member of the world community can be contextualised within the emerging realities of contemporary times while appropriating their history and situational context. In a negotiated settlement, whatever is not possible within a comprehensive democratic arrangement can be kept open-ended for further negotiation rather than those become obstacle for a mutually agreeable solution. While waiting for a condusive and amiable realisation of territorial integration, exploring the possibility of deterritorialise model of administration can be an option.
