Abstract

Parametric studies on cashew shell carbonization is an attempt to convert cashew shell into char, tar, cashew nut shell liquid(CNSL liquid) under carbonizing conditions. It has been observed that the cashew shells are utilized in an in efficient manner. Upon gasification the cashew shell, generates excessive tar which in turn leads to the malfunctioning of various end utilities like engines, blower, pumps, burner nozzles, blowers etc. This paper aims to optimize the parameters that govern cashew shell carbonization for effective removal of tar at the source. Hence the solid ouput from the carboniser via, char could be used for gasifier, there by generating producer gas containing very minimal tar that could be effectively used for several end applications including IC engines for power generations. Cashew shell on carbonization yields Cashew Nut Shell Liquid (CNSL). The main aim of this project is towards effective removal of cashew nut shell liquid and to optimise the parameters that govern the process.
