The transmitting behavior of wireless communications recommend that the signal transmission between the source and the destination can be overheard at neighbouring nodes. This overhead information is processed at the surrounding nodes and retransmitted to the destination by producing spatial diversity to achieve higher throughput and reliability through the concept of cooperative communication. In this paper energy efficient protocol with channel utilization in cooperative networks is proposed. The channel utilization is improved by multichannel switching. The simulation results show that the energy usage of the sensor devices is reduced and the network performance is increased.
