Abstract

This paper presents the three-phase four-wire Static Compensator (STATCOM) it includes two-leg voltage source converter (VSC) with a star/Delta transformer is employed for power quality improvement. The STATCOM affords the harmonics elimination and reactive power compensation. The star/delta transformer gives isolation to the VSC and way to the zero sequence fundamental in addition to harmonics neutral current. The synchronous reference frame (SRF) theory is used to determine the reference source current. The foremost features to use the two-leg VSC are to reduce the size and cost of the STATCOM. The performance of the STATCOM is confirmed through digital simulation by using the MATLAB/Simulink software.
