True Positive Detection of Non-Cooperative Nodes in Cooperative Wireless Networks

Abstract

MANETs are infrastructure-less networks and has multi-hop transmission. Transmitting a packet from one node to other node in the network generally relies on services provided by intermediate nodes. In a cooperative network all the intermediate nodes cooperates each other to have a successful transmission without any data loss. But multi-hop reliance is having a new vulnerability like X-Hole DoS attack by holding all the data by itself or it creates a route by itself and simply dropping packets it received to forward. Watchdog was introduced to avoid this kind of packet dropping attacks. But the monitoring node [Watch-dog] suffers various problems especially false detection of malicious node, and power control. In this paper TPD-[True Positive Detection] approach is introduced to overcome false detection because of the nodes moving characteristics and channel conditions. TPD follows Bayesian method to judge a node is malicious node or not, after receiving a signed reply from all the relevant neighbor nodes in the network. TPD isolates the malicious node when the true positive rate of the malicious ACK-RES is more. The simulation results show that the improvement of TPD in detection vs. the watchdog, and efficiency through true positive rate and isolation techniques as well.
