The mobile adhoc network (MANET) exhibits higher exposure to several network threats in particular to the routing attack. To handle such malicious threat, there are many protocols has been presented earlier, but suffers to achieve required performance. To improve the performance of sinkhole detection, an efficient LETS (Location—Energy-Traffic-Speed) based traffic approximation algorithm is presented in this paper. The detection of sink hole attack is performed in a distributed manner, where each node performs sink hole attack detection. Each node discovers its own neighbors and collects location, energy, displacement speed details through the neighbor discovery procedure. Using this information, the method performs location aware traffic approximation to identify the trustworthy of the neighbor. The method computes the trust weight for each neighbor and the route to forward the data packet. This improves the performance of mobile adhoc network and also reduces the frequency of attack.
