Abstract

Portable embedded systems are using larger cache memories. There is a steep increase in leakage energy due to CMOS technology advancements and therefore managing the cache memory is very critical in portable systems. Dynamic power is dissipated whenever transistors switch state which again contributes to energy wastage. Also the quantity of power consumed in embedded systems affects the battery lifetime. To address this problem a comprehensive survey of different reconfigurable cache memory techniques for energy efficiency is carried out. The aim of the survey is to get the insights of reconfigurable cache memory and motivate researchers for finding out an optimal reconfigurable cache memory design.
