This paper is part of the UGC-UKIERI* funded project on rights of child victims of sexual abuse in India and UK and the extent to which implementation of these rights in both countries are enabling the progress on the journey from victim to survivor. Put together by the team working on the project in India it provides an in-depth review of literature on child sexual abuse in India. Tracing the evolution of child rights, the paper examines existing laws in the country and recently enforced laws that seek to lend better support to child victims of sexual abuse. Current government policies and the role of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) in dealing with child sexual abuse are discussed. Finally the rights of the child in India are critically evaluated in light of the journey from victim to survivor.
