The need for stringent security mechanisms is more anticipated nowadays for providing information security. With the use of methods such as steganography, Digital images have become the widely used data that can be easily transferred among users. This has led users to review the security mechanism associated with it. In this paper, a Parallel Non Uniform Cellular Automata (CA) based image encryption algorithm is proposed for effective performance. The strength or quality of Parallel Non Uniform CA rules based encryption is compared with existing CA based methods, A5/1 and W7 algorithms. The performance of proposed system in statistical tests such as differential analysis, correlation coefficient analysis and entropy tests is found to be efficient.
