Awaken Social Responsibility in Youth

Abstract

The adolescents’ growing sense of responsibility is a turning point, toward the responsibility in adulthood and peaceful behaviour. The purpose of present study was to study the impact of the developed program on youth's social responsibility by using a mixed method approach. Findings of previous study had revealed that experience in community service has positive effects on personal and social responsibility. A Single group, Pre-test Post-test design was adopted for the present study whose findings were confirmed by student Observations made by teachers. A combination of PTM-R by Carlo and Randall, (2002) and Citizenship and Social Responsibility Survey (2011) was used to measure the levels of Prosocial tendency, Personal responsibility and Community mindedness, as indicators of Social Responsibility. It was found that the community interaction program had a positive effect on the Social responsibility level of youth which was confirmed by the observations. Youth programs can be contexts where, youth develop a sense of responsibility.
