Glimpses into Government of Karnataka's Initiatives towards Women Empowerment – Stree Shakthi Programme

Stree Shakthi Programme (SSP) is a strategy adopted by the Department of Women and Child Development (DWCD) through the Government of Karnataka State to empower the marginalized women socially and economically by forming self-help groups. What are the benefits offered for the marginalized women through SSP? What is the progress of SSP through financial assistances provided since its inception? On these lines, the researchers have attempted to study the functioning, benefits and financial assistances provided for the marginalized women in order to bring them to the mainstreams of the society. The information required for this research article is drawn from secondary data available through various literatures and official websites of Department of Women Child Development, Karnataka. The study reveals that the SSP in rural districts of Karnataka has progressed since its inception through benefits offered and financial assistances provided and some parts still remain untouched due to obstacles such as lack of awareness, freedom of mobility and fear of spouses.
