This paper tries to explore to the teaching competency of government and private primary school teachers. A sample of 112 primary school teachers (58 government and 54 private) was selected through stratified random sampling technique. For the sake of data collection, General Teaching Competency Scale (GTCS) developed by Passi and Lalitha (2009) was used. Mean, SD and t-test was employed to analyze the data. The study revealed that government teachers possess significantly better teaching competency than private teachers. There is no significant difference between the teaching competency of government male and female primary school teachers. Private female teachers are found to have significantly better teaching competency than their male counterparts. Also, government male teachers are found to have significantly better teaching competency than their private counterparts. However, there is no significant difference between the teaching competency of government and private female primary school teachers.
