Abstract

Education is perceived as a resource for getting personal status, more economic stability leading to position of control and power, entering into occupations which are satisfying and motivating. The occupational preferences of secondary school students are mostly guided by their parents’ decisions. While selecting an occupation many parents happen to force their children to enter certain occupations against the children's desires and capabilities. This work has been carried out to empirically explore the possible effect of parental education level on student's occupational aspirations. The study also indicated that the children of educated parents tend to aspire high in their occupational choices.
