Social media tools play vital role in distance education teaching and learning process. In the last two decades, many institutions around the world have adopted ICT enabled education to close the gap between old and new models of teaching/learning. ICT gives rise to new digital skills and competence that are needed for employment, education and training, self-development and participation in the society.
Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) adopts the ICT enabled education and conducts the various trainings like e-learning, social networking, web 2.0 tools, development of on-line courses for the staffs of State Open Universities (SOU), Distance Educational Institutes (DEI) and IGNOU as well. As part of the continues improvement process in training, a study conducted to find out the effectiveness of a Web 2.0 tools training conducted by IGNOU. The objectives of the study to collect the learners’ profile, refer training design documents, select the appropriate variables for impact analysis, examine the various characteristics and find out possible reason.
In this paper discuss about study of Training Methodology, Survey Instrument, Data Collection, Data Analysis and impact findings. The study results are elaborated in details for Use of web 2.0 tools on student support services in ODL system, satisfaction on training, Usage of Web 2.0 Tools in Teaching Learning Process and Learners barriers to use of Web 2.0 tools. The finding and recommendations are also covered including designing of the training programmes, Infrastructure, learners’ motivations, training materials and further follow up activities.
