The present article inspects the 6th wave of World Values Survey (WVS) to analyse opinions of respondents from Asia regarding protection of environment. The main research questions are whether environment is a luxury commodity and demanded by economically better placed citizens. Secondly, whether people living in urban areas are more concerned about environmental quality and thirdly, whether people living in wealthier countries are more concerned about economic growth or protection of environment even at the cost of growth and employment. It is found that citizens placed at better economic position are more concerned about environment; people living in more urban areas prefer better environment quality and people of countries having higher per capita income are more concerned about economic growth. The policy implication is that urgent attention should be given to maintain environment standard in rapidly urbanising Asian cities.
