Understanding Shiekh Mohammad Abdullah: Politics & Role

Shiekh Mohammad Abdullah, the saint politician of valley, was one of the famous leaders of modern India. He was not only the most dominating political figure of modern Jammu & Kashmir State, but he played a significant role in shaping the post 1947 sub-continental politics. His contribution as a political leader is so great and the impact of his personality is so immense that it needs volumes to record it. He was the most enigmatic and one among the complex leaders ever produced by the state However, his role isoften viewed in Black and white terms. The present paper is a modest contribution towards estimating the role of Shiekh Mohammad Abdullah in pre and post-independence era of Jammu & Kashmir.
