Pulses are cultivated as a mixed crop along with cash crops and between two cereal crops. Currently, daily per capita availability of pulses is 37 gram which is considerably lower than the ICMR recommendation of 52 gram. If we dream of healthy of a India in 2050, the requirements of pulses will be 39 million tonnes which is necessitate of 2.14 per cent growth rate per annum. To meet the project demand, productivity of pulses must be enhanced to a level 1200 kg per hectare and nearly 3 to 5 million hectares additional area has to be brought under pulses across the country.
As the present study focuses on the secondary data during the 1991–92 to 2014–15 in order to examine the growth rates and further to test acceleration or deceleration of growth trends by employing log-log model and quadratic curve. Additive decomposition is used for knowing the contribution growth. Descriptive statistics and t-test are also used to examine the variability and is there any significant difference between regions in Andhra Pradesh.
From the overall analysis, it can be infer that average use of area, production and yield of pulses in three regions are same. The compound annual growth rates in three regions are very scanty. The Coefficient of Variation (CV) indicates that variability was high in Rayalaseema region in area, production and productivity of pulses.
