A Study on Socio-economic Status and Growth Trend of Rural Women Entrepreneurs under Formal Sector in the Dibrugarh District of Assam

Abstract

Rural women entrepreneurs are those women entrepreneurs who actually hail from and reside in rural areas. Rural women entrepreneurs are important for socio-economic development in rural area. The aim of this study is to find out the socio-economic status of rural women entrepreneur and also find out the reasons for slow growth of rural women entrepreneurs under formal (registered) sector in the Dibrugarh District of Assam. The data used in the paper are both the Primary data as well as secondary data. The primary data collection was done with the help of schedule. The overall analysis of socio-economic profile of sample Rural Women Entrepreneurs shows that the present status of Rural Women Entrepreneurs in the study area is not satisfactory. The study also found out some reasons for slow growth of rural women entrepreneurs under formal sector in the study area. In this area the process of rural women entrepreneurship formation is not restricted to any particular age group, caste, family type or marital status; yet the overall growth rate of rural women entrepreneurship development in the study area is not satisfactory. There is negative as well as positive trend of Rural Women Entrepreneurship development under formal sector in this area.
