Non-ferrous metal craft (Brass metal craft and Bell-metal craft), popularly known as Dokra or Dhokra in West Bengal, is an ancient unbroken tribal handicraft still practiced in Eastern, Central and Southern part of India. Though present fashion and luxury industry have maximum possible market but Dokra which is one of the oldest traditions have been increased its markets itself in Indian and overseas because of primitive simplicity, folk beauty, imaginative design and motif. The present study is focused about the existing livelihood pattern and socio-economic status of Dokra artisans in Bankura-II C.D. Block, Bankura District. The livelihood pattern of maximum artisans depends upon the Dokra crafts making. However the average monthly income of them is not below the level but standard of living is poor. In spite of having poor standard of living the artisans are not interested to give up their traditional work at all risk, even they are interested to involve their forthcoming generation in this profession rather than choosing any other profession for their livelihood.
