Incubation Study of the Calcium Silicate as an Acid Soil Amendment with and without FYM

Abstract

The Possibility of using the calcium silicate as a soil amendment in an acid soil was investigated. Calcium silicate contained 80% calcium carbonates with24.17% of silicon. An incubation study was conducted with an acid soil up to 50 days and the treatments included various doses of calcium silicate (0.1, 0.2 & 0.3 LR) with and without FYM. Results indicatedthe application of different doses of calcium silicateraised the pH from 5.1 to 5.7 and maintained from 21st to 28th days of incubation period. But when these different doses of calcium silicate mixed with FYM, it raised the pH from 5.3 to 5.9 and maintained upto 28th days of incubation period. The application of different doses of calcium silicate neutralised the acidity (from 1.14 to 0.70 Cmol(P+)/kg), exchangeable Al+3 (from 0.62 to 0.50 Cmol(P+)/kg) and exchangeable H+ (from 0.52 to 0.20 Cmol(P+)/kg). But the combine application of different doses of calcium silicate with FYM neutralised the acidity (from 1.12 to 0.67 Cmol(P+)/kg), exchangeable Al+3 (from 0.56 to 0.47 Cmol(P+)/kg) and exchangeable H+(0.53 to 0.20 Cmol(P+)/kg) more. Theapplication of calcium silicate@0.3 LR mixed with FYM raised the pH (5.9) and neutralised the acidity (0.67 Cmol(P+)/kg), exchangeable Al+3 (0.47 Cmol(P+)/kg) and exchangeable H+ (0.20 Cmol(P+)/kg) more compare to the other treatments.
