The progress inbreeding solely depends on magnitude of variability for the characters need to be improved. Studies on variability for various yield and yield contributing characters in F2 population of SCH 5 hybrid of chilli exhibited good amount of variability for all the characters studied. The study revealed high tomoderate heritability coupled with high tomode rate genetic advance for several biometric characters including yield per plant, fruit per plant, fruit weight and fruit length. The dry fruit yield was significantly and positively associated with fruits/plant, fruit weight, fruit length and fruit diameter. The path coefficient analysis revealed fruits/plant as the most important component in determining the yield and had very high direct effect on yield. Fruit related characterswere foundtobe important yield indicator inchilies and one can use these characters for making direct selections.
