Correlations between Weather Parameters and Growth Contributing Characters in Organic Green Chilli (Capsicum annum L.)

The experiment was conducted on correlations between weather parameters such as temperature (°C), relative humidity (%), bright sunshine (hrs), canopy temperature (°C) and growth contributing characters such as plant height(cm) primary branches of chilli, dry matter of chilli (g) in organic green chilli (Capsicum annum L.) The correlation between weather parameters and plant height (cm)of chilli revealed significant positive correlation with respect to Tmax., Tmin(r=0.998**), RH-IIandcanopy temperature(r = 1.000**), whereas, negative correlation was observed with RH-I and BSS with all the treatments. The correlation between weather parametersand number ofprimarybranches of chilli revealed significant positive correlation with respect to Tmax, Tmin(r = 0.811*), RH-II and canopy temperature(r = 0.830*), whereas, negative correlation was observed with RH-I and BSS with all the t treatments. The correlation between weather parameters and dry matter (g) of chilli revealed significant positive correlation with respect to Tmax, Tmin (r = 0.977**), RH-II (r = 0.725*) and canopy temperature (r = 0.973**), whereas, negative correlation was observed with RH-I and BSS with all the treatments. India is the largest producer, exporter and consumer of spices in the world. Major share of spices (90%) produced in the country is used to meet the domestic need or demand, only 10 per cent is exported. Though consumption of chilli is the highest in India, maximum export is also from our country. Oleoresin of chilli with low, medium or high pungency is also exported in large quantities. Indian chilli and its products are brought out by a number of countries. Organic spices fetch 20–50 per cent higher price than inorganic spices. India with its strength in intrinsic quality of spices and low consumption of fertilizers and pesticides can exploit the commercial agriculture sector. India enjoys the monopoly in the export of spice oils and oleoresins with acontribution of 20 per centtototal export quality and 24 percent ofthe total exportearnings fromspice.
