Seasonal Incidence of Maruca vitrata (Geyer) on Green Gram

Abstract

The seasonal incidence of Maruca vitrata attacking green gram was carried out during kharif season of 2012 and 2013 at Anand Agricultural University, Anand (Gujarat). The incidence of M. vitrata in green gram was commenced from 34th standard meteorological week (4th week of August) and continued till 44th standard meteorological week (1st week of November). The higher activity of M. vitrata observed during 37th standard meteorological week (3rd week of September) to 43rd standard meteorological week (5th week of October) with maximum level of incidence during 41st (1.47 larvae/plant) to 42nd (0.93 larva/plant) standard meteorological week (2nd fortnight of October). The weather parameters viz., bright sunshine (r = 0.678*, 0.645*) and maximum temperature (r = 0.753**, 0.720*) had significant positive association with M. vitrata activity on green gram during both the years. The wind speed had significant negative relationship with M. vitrata during first year (r =-0.652*) and non-significant (r =-0.407) negative association during second year.
