Abstract

The study conducted in Junagadh district with a view to examine the production, consumption and disposal pattern of milk in different category of producers and to identify the factor affecting the marketed surplus of milk. Primary data were collected through the personal interview of milk producer using questionnaires. The average 22.35 per cent of the total daily milk produce was consumed by the producer's families and remaining 77. 65 per cent of total surplus milk was marketed through various channels, out of that 83.29 per cent of total surplus milk was supplied to private dairy, 8.85 per cent of milk supplied to consumer and 7.86 per cent of milk supplied to dairy co-operative. Further, the highest marketing cost was incurred in channel-II (Producer-Village dairy-Private dairy-Retailers-Consumer) followed by channel-III (Producer-Co-operative dairy-Retailer-Consumer) and channel-I (producer-Consumer). Hence, channel-I (95.58) was more efficient than channel-III (88.88) and channel-II (83.79) that was measured by tabular analysis.
