Abstract

Pheromone traps of codling moth (Cydia pomonella L.) were installed in canopies of apple trees at three different locations in Kargil (Ladakh) region of J & K. Three categories of apple trees based on their heights i.e., 4m, 6m and 8m were selected at each location. Two pheromone traps were installed at the heights of 2m and 3m for 4m trees, 3mand 4m for 6m trees, and4m and6mfor 8m trees. Maximum number of moth catches/trap/week during the entire observation period was recorded in upper half of the trees of different heights at all the locations. Significant differences were observed across the sample dates during both the years when the moth capture over the locations was compared. Thus, the study revealed that the pheromone traps could be effective for the control of codling moth if installed at appropriate heights.
