Abstract

Banana breeding for resistance to burrowing nematodes was done and some hybrids were evolved. The twenty four new synthetic banana hybrids were screened under artificially inoculated pot condition for their reaction against Radopholus similis. Those hybrids were assessed for their root characters, root and corm damage in inoculated and uninoculated plants. Five hybrids namely, H 912, H 914, H 916, H 926 and H 943 were found to be resistance and ten hybrids, H 903, H 904, H 906, H 911, H 913, H 915, H 923, H 934, H 939 and H 952 were foundto be tolerant to the burrowing nematode, Radopholus similis and remaining were rated as susceptible.
