Abstract

WRKY transcription factors are one of the largest families of transcriptional regulators in plants which form integral parts of signaling webs that modulate many plant processes. The WRKY proteins contain a DNA-binding region of approximately 60 amino acids (the WRKY domain) at its amino terminal end and a novel zinc-finger motif at the carboxyl terminus, this features give this transcription factor family name “WRKY”. Novel DNAbinding protein, the WRKY protein, show high affinity binding to a DNA sequence, the W-box sequence (C/T)TGAC(C/T), which is found in the promoter region of many genes.
