Genetic Variability Among Diverse Genotypes of Anthurium andreanum Linden

Anthurium andreanum Linden, a native of South West Columbia, belongs to the family Araceae. Ten diverse genotypes of anthurium (Anthurium andreanum Linden) which are having commercial qualities were evaluated to assess the genetic parameters in respect of yield and yield determining characters. 14 characters were utilized in the study. The magnitude of phenotypic coefficient of variation (PCV) was higher magnitude than the genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV) for all the observed characters. High heritability coupled with high genetic advance were noticed in almost all characters except plant height, internode length, number of suckers per plant, number of leaves per spadices per plant and days from emergence to maturity of leaves. This indicates the effect of additive gene action and the selection can be done on phenotypic performance of these characters.
