Abstract

The experiment was conducted to evaluate physical parameters of different varieties of sapota at Department of Post Harvest Technology, Kittur Rani Channamma College of Horticulture, Arabhavi, Belagavi district, Karnataka, during the year 2014–2015. Fifteen varieties viz. Kalipatti, Cricket Ball, DHS-1, DHS-1 selection, DHS2, PKM-1, PKM-3, PKM-4, CO-1, CO-2, CO-3, Virudhunagar, Kirthibarti, Cricket Ball selection (ARS-A) and Cricket Ball (Udupi) were studied under Ghataprabha command area conditions. Fruit diameter maximum in Cricket ball-Udupi (63.03 mm) and least in PKM-4 (42.14 mm). The length of fruit was maximum in PKM-4 (80.48 mm) and minimum in Cricket Ball selection-ARSA (47.95 mm). The variety PKM-4 and Cricket ball significantly recorded minimum and maximum(1.34 and 8.05 seeds/fruit) number of seeds respectively. Lowest peel weight per fruit was noticed in Virudhunagar(9.00 g/fruit) and highest was found in CO3 (17.61 g/fruit). The hybrid DHS-2 recorded maximum (38.34) pulp to seed ratio and minimum pulp to seed ratio was recorded in Cricket ball (5.69). The study indicates that considerable variability exists among fifteen varieties and there is good scope for choosing better physical properties of sapota.
