Residue Analysis of Pesticides in Pomegranate Fruits

Abstract

In present investigation residues of pesticides were studied in arils of pomegranate fruits periodically harvested after third spray using the chromatographic methods (GLC and HPLC) at the detectable limit of 0.02 ppm for spinosad, deltamethrin and cypermethrin and 0.05 ppm for emamectin benzoate, chlorfenapyr, thiamethoxam and thiodicarb. Residues were below detectable limit (BDL) in fruits from plants sprayed with spinosad (0.018 and 0.036%), emamectin benzoate (0.0022 and 0.0044%) and deltamethrin (0.002%) against fruit borer. However, detected residues of thiodicarb in 0-day samples (0.18 to 0.35 ppm) reached BDL of 0.05 ppm in 1.58 to 3.82 days. Spray treatments evaluated against thrips viz., spinosad (0.018 and 0.036%), chlorfenapyr (0.01 and 0.02%), thiamethoxam (0.005 and 0.01%) and cypermethrin (0.015%) were studied for residues in fruits after third spray. However, residues of only thiamethoxam were found in 0-day sample (0.08 to 0.18 ppm) which reached BDL of 0.05 ppm in 1.00 to 2.97 days.
