Abstract

In seed production programme, the environment directly or indirectly controls the seed yield and quality parameters where it is being grown. In addition to genotypes, the soil and agronomic practices and their interactions have profound influence on seed productivity of cowpea crop. The main objective of any agricultural research programme is to increase the level of crop productivity. One of the strategies toboost up the crop productivity is the adoption of improved agronomic practices comprising of quality seed, improved varieties, adequate plant nutritionand timely plant protection management. Among the food legumes grown in India, cowpea is an ancient and well-known leguminous crop due to its nutritional quality and suitability for multiple cropping systems. Application of 100 per cent recommended dose of fertilizer (RDF) along with vermicompost 2 tonnes per hectare and seed treatment with Rhizobium 500g per hectare recorded higher quantity of quality seeds and it was on par with application of 100% recommended dose offertilizer (RDF)along with FYM @ 5 tonnes per hectare and seed treatment with Rhizobium 500g ha−1 as compared to other treatment in cowpea (Koteshi Lamani, 2013).
