Abstract

Genetic studies based on diallel analysis were performed on ten chickpea genotypes and their 45 hybrids in 2013–14 at Center of Excellance for Research on Pulses (CERP), Sardarkrushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University, SDAU Gujarat. The graphical analysis was performed for days to maturity, plant height, numberof pods plant and 100seed weight in a set of 10×10 diallel fashion (excluding reciprocals) i.e. ten parents and 45 F1’s. The data were subjected to estimation of variance-covariance analysis of Hayman (1954 a). The regression of Wr on V r was desirable and near unity for days tomaturity, plant height, pod per plant and 100-seed weight indicating validity of simple additive-dominance hypothesis of gene action for these character. The non-additive gene effects were predominant for all the characters under study. The diallel analyses revealed over dominance for grain yield and other characters. The parental line GJG-3 had maximum dominant genes for earliness The parent IC-269272 found carrying maximum genes for dwarfness, the parental line IC-269277 had maximum dominant genes for pod per plant and the parental line IC269269 was found having maximum dominant genes for increasing 100-seed weight.
