Studies on Seasonal Incidence of Major Sucking Insect Pests of Okra and their Correlation with Weather Parameters

Abstract

The present study was conducted at research farm of Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Raipurduring rabi season 2012. The results of field experiments revealed that the Okra jassids infestation appeared in the third week of February (7th SMW) with a population of 5.33 jassid/plant and reached peak during thirdweek of March (12thSMW) with 27.27 jassid/plant. The peak population of Aphids, white fly and red cotton bug observed on third week (11thSMW) of March with mean population 22.07 aphid/plant, second week of April (15 SMW) with 18.07 white fly/plant and last week of April (17th SMW) with 2.76 red cotton bug/plant respectively in okra field. Correlation analysis between weather factors and aphid jassids, red cotton bug and white fly showed positive and negative correlation. White fly incidence showed positively higher significant correlation with maximum temperature (r= 0.748**) and positive but non-significant correlation with minimum temperature(r = 0.165).
