Abstract

Indian mustard [Brassica juncea (L.) Czern and Coss.] is an important oil seed crop. The major fungal diseasesare white rust (WR)and downy mildew (DM). Studies were undertaken to determine the role of pathogen Albugo candida and Hyaloperonospora brassicae in the formation of staghead which causes extensive distortion, hypertrophy, hyperplasia and sterility resulting inflorescence malformation in Brassica juncea. Samples were collected from eight accessions of mustard (B. juncea). Specific SSR primers for H. brassicae produce a single amplicon of 280 bp while A. candida amplified 200-bp approximately.
