Correlations between Weather Parameters and Yield Contributing Characters in Organic Green Chilli (Capsicum annum L.)

The experiment was conducted on correlations between weather parameters such as temperature (°C), relative humidity (%), bright sunshine (hrs), canopy temperature (°C) and yield contributing character such as number of fruit plant⁻¹ fruit yield (q ha⁻¹) in organic green chilli (Capsicum annum L.) The correlation between weather parameters and number of fruits plant⁻¹ of chilli revealed significant positive correlation with respect to Tmax (r = 0.758*), BSS and canopy temperature (r = 0.816*), whereas, negative correlation was observed with Tmin, RH-I and RH-II (r =-0.809*) with all the treatments. The correlation between weather parameters and fruit yield (q ha⁻¹) dry matter (g) of chilli revealed significant positive correlation with respect to Tmax (r = 0.782*), BSS and canopy temperature (r = 0.921**), whereas, negative correlation was observed with Tmin, RH-I and RH-II (r =-0.741*) with all the treatments. Chilli is one of the major vegetable crops grown both for green and dry chilli in the country. Chillies are used in both green and dry form in all culinary preparations equally by rich and poor alike. In curry, it is used as a paste, powder, broken split or whole form. It is an essential ingredient of Indian curry, which is characterized by attractive colour. Chilli is nature's wonder. Its fruit, appear in different sizes, shapes and colures, withtwo important qualities. They have biting pungency attributedto capsaicin and red colour due to the pigment capsanthin. Apart from this capsaicin, an alkaloid extracted from chilli is used in medicine. Chilli is rich source of vitamins A, C, E and P. Chilli, green or red fruits of Capsicum annuum L. belong to the family Solanaceae.
