Occurrence and Study of Powdery Mildew (Erysiphe polygony Dc.) Disease of Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum graecum L.) in North Gujarat

Abstract

Survey of powdery mildew of fenugreek in Banaskantha and Patan district revealed that maximum disease incidence (86.66%) was observed in Vav and least was in Dhanera (60.00%) takuka of Banaskantha district. Similarly, at pod formation and maturity stages, higher average intensity of 46.96 and 68.48% was recorded in Vav and least was in Dhanera (27.68 and 47.52%) taluka of Banaskantha district, respectively. The average length of conidia was maximum (40.40 ± 2.51 μm) in the samples collected from Vav taluka, while minimum (25.30 ± 3.17 μm) was in the samples collected from Dhanera taluka. Maximum breadth of conidia (22.60 ± 2.22 μm) was observed in the samples of Patan taluka and minimum (15.70 ± 2.27 μm) was in the samples of Siddhpur taluka. Freshly collected conidia were not observed germinated while, 46.00 and 54.00 per cent conidia were observed germinated after 24 and 48 h of incubation, respectively. The maximum and minimum germ tube length after 24 hours of incubation was 97.50 and 14.50 μm, respectively. Similarly, after 48 hours of incubation, maximum and minimum appressorium length recorded was 15.40 and 9.05 μm, respectively.
