Abstract

An experiment was conducted at Sugarcane Research Station, Sirugamani to investigate the cane yield and juice quality performance of sixteen mid late maturing sugarcane clones during 2010–11. The experiment was laidout underrandomized block design withthree replications. Observations were recorded for germination per cent, economic shoot, cane thickness, cane height, number of internodes/plant, internode length, cane yield, Brix %, Pol %, Purity %, CCS% and sugar yield. Analysis of variance revealed highly significant differences among the test clones for cane yield, sugar yield and its contributing characters. On the basis of overall performance, three test clones namely Si 07104, Si 07009 and Si 07061 recorded good performance in respect of cane yield of 136.30, 131.40 and 128.30 t/ha respectively than the standards. The higher mean sugar yield was noticed in Si 07061 (17.56 t/ha), Si 07104 (17.50 t/ha) and Si 07009 (16.70 t/ha). On the basis of overall performance, it was concluded that the test clones Si 07104, Si 07009 and Si 07061 need to be forwarded to next selection stage for further progression and testing.
