Abstract

The present study was conducted to prepare the comprehensive list of bee flora in the Hisar region of Haryana. The regular survey was conducted to identify the sources of bee pasturage around the Research Apiary. Thebee forage plants along with their common name, families, flowering period and bee forage values were recorded as nectar and pollen sources. Further, these sources were categorized into 1, 2 and 3 as major, medium and minor source on the basis of plant density and the relative importance as bee forage to Apis mellifera L. in the local context. Out of 53 reported plant species, 5 emerged as nectar sources, while 18 as pollen sources and 30 as both. The study indicates that the area is rich in diversity of bee forage plants and species such as B. juncea, C. sinensis, Eucalyptus sp., P. guajava, T. alexandrinum etc. emerged out as important bee forage species.
