The fungus is a cornucopia of a seemingly infinite variety of strange and wonderful metabolites. Many of these metabolites are of great interest and importance to man, but most have little or noapparent role to play in the lives of the fungi. However, the following paper is concerned with metabolites that we can be sure are of great interest to the cells producing them-the fungal sex hormones.
