A study was conducted to examine the efficiency of different types of grains for spawns production by using Locally available grains of maize, paddy, wheat, sorghum, gram and soybean. Various parameters are examined such as mycelium growth and spawn run time (mycelia development). The experiments were setup as a completely randomized design (CRD). The pure culture of Pleurotus sajor-caju was inoculated to the sterilized grains and the days takenfor mycelial run was observed. Minimum days required for complete mycelial run on spawn was recorded in sorghum grains (2.20 days), followed by maize grains (2.60 days), soybean grains (2.80 days), paddy grains (3.00 days), gram grains (4.40 days)and wheat grains (4.60 days).
