Three lines and six testers were crossed in a line x tester fashion to work out heterosis over mid parent, better parent and standard heterosis for twelve yield and yield components in rice. These crosses showed marked variation in the expression of heterobeltiosis and standard heterosis for yield and yield components. Grain yield manifested highly significant heterobeltiosis and standard heterosis in two crosses. Heterobeltiosis ranging from-93.38% to 67.11% and standard heterosis from-91.27% to 120.35%. Two crossesviz., IR 79156A x R1060-1674-1-1 and IR79156A xJHITPITI exhibited the highest heterosis along with per se performance and sca effects for number of filled grains per panicle, spikelet fertility percentage and panicle length along with grain yield per plant over the standard check Indira Sona.
Heterosis, hybrid rice, combining ability, gca, sca, cytoplasmic male sterile line
