Efficacy of Fungicides and Bioagents Against Internal Seed Borne Pathogen of Soybean

Abstract

Fusarium oxysporum, Fusarium moniliforme, Macrophomina phaseolina and Colletotrichum truncatum, Drechslera sorghicola and Alternaria alternata were found to be internally seed borne pathogens in soybean seeds. The elemination of incidence of Fusarium oxysporum, Fusarium moniliforme, Macrophomina phaseolina and Colletotrichum truncatum due to fungicidal seed treatment was 100, 97.53, 97.37 and 100 per cent, respectively over control. The elemination ofincidence of these pathogens due to bioagent seed treatment was 45.45, 28.40, 47.37 and 26.83 per cent, respectively over control. The elemination of Drechslera sorghicola incidence due to the treatments thiram + carbendazim (@ 0.2% each) and captan + mancozeb (@ 0.2% each) was 85.71 per cent over control. The elemination of Drechslera sorghicola incidence due to bioagent seed treatment was 21.43 per cent over control. The elemination of Alternaria alternata incidence due to captan + mancozeb (@ 0.2% each) treatment was 85.96 per cent over control. The elemination of Alternaria alternata incidence due to Trichoderma viride @ 0.6% was 26.32 per cent over control. Among all the treatments, thiram + carbendazim (@ 0.2% each) seed treatment was effective to increase the seed germination of soybean seeds internally infected with Fusarium oxysporum, Fusarium moniliforme, Macrophomina phaseolina and Colletotrichum truncatum. Similarly biocontrol agent Trichoderma viride was also effective against these pathogens. The seed treatment with captan + mancozeb (@ 0.2% each) was effective to increase the seed germination of soybean seeds internally infected with Drechslera sorghicola and Alternaria alternata. The treatment, thiram + carbendazim(@ 0.2% each) was effective in increasing the seedling vigour index in soybean seeds internally infected with Fusarium oxysporum, Fusarium moniliforme, Macrophomina phaseolina and Colletotrichum truncatum. The increase in seedling vigour index due to this fungicidal treatment was 281.88, 223.80, 166.50 and 163.17 per cent, respectively over control. The increase in seedling vigour index due to bioagent Trichoderma viride treatment was 158.49, 90.04, 33.77 and 42.27 per cent, respectively over control. The treatment captan + mancozeb (@ 0.2% each) was effective to increase seedling vigour index of soybean seeds internally infected with Drechslera sorghicola and Alternaria alternata. The increase in seedling vigour index due to this fungicidal treatment was 64.54 and 115.05 per cent, respectively over control. Similarly the bioagent Trichoderma viride @ 0.6% also increased the seedling vigour index of soybean seeds internally infected with Drechslera sorghicola and Alternaria alternata and the increase in seedling vigour index due to this bioagenttreatment was 23.23 and 11.24 per cent, respectively over control.
