Abstract

Aquaculture plays a crucial role where food security for rural poor is concerned. Integration of aquaculture practice with duck rearing has gained momentum maintaining a balanced sustainable ecosystem. The waste obtained from duck farming including waste feeds, manures can be used as source of nutrient for aquaculture. The study was conducted in 20 perennial ponds each of size 0.1 ha with six species combination of Indian major and exotic carps viz. Catla: Silver carp: Rohu: Grass carp: Mrigal: Common carp (150: 150: 200: 100: 200: 200) integrated with different stocking densities of Khaki Campbell duck, one with 20 numbers and another with 30 numbers. Integration economics of these two systems were compared and the benefit cost ratio of this system using 20 numbers of duck is 2.08 and that of 30 numbers of duck is 2.38. The two different systems were analysed using SPSS version 16 and significance test was done using paired sample T test and observed that there is a significant difference at 5% level of significance which signifies that integrating with 30 numbersof duck per 0.1 ha pond gives a high potential increase to sustain and increased the socio economic development of the people.
