Transitional Cell Carcinoma (TCC) of Urinary Bladder in a Rottweiler Dog

An eight-years-old male Rottweiler was presented to Teaching Veterinary Complex (TVCC), College of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry, Anandwith a history of persistent hematuria. A detailed diagnostic approach including anamnesis, physical examination, urinalysis and ultrasonography was initiated. The presence of a hyperechoic growth in urinary bladder (2.49 cm L × 3.16 cm W; 6.57 cm² area) with thickened (1.06 cm) bladder wall was conspicuous with Transitional Cell Carcinoma (TCC) on ultrasonography. Physical urinalysis revealed presence of blood clots and tissue in urine, pH value of 6.5 as well as a specific gravity of 1.025 while presence of intact RBCs and clumps of transitional epithelial cells were observed on microscopic urinalysis. The case was confirmed to be of TCC of urinary bladder and an evidence-based therapeutic regimen was initiated. The dog showed gradual improvement in general health over a period of four weeks. The details of the study are discussed in this report.
